A look at Disney’s California Adventure through the eyes of Jason and Jenni.

If you’re a fan of theming then you’ll love the Disney experience.  California Adventure has a couple of different themed areas.  The first area is Golden State and it represents all of California.  North California forests and the states rich aviation history really stand out in this section.  The 2nd area that you’ll likely encounter is Paradise Pier.  This section is designed to resemble an old pier style park and it’s home to most of the parks rides.  The final area is the Hollywood Pictures Backlot.  Here you’ll find the Tower of Terror along with an old Hollywood theme.  The detail in each area is about as good as it gets in any park.

The food at DCA is also top notch.  You don’t have to wander far to find a tempting snack and everything that we tried was great.  Park cleanliness is another aspect that can only be matched by a handful of parks around the country.

Once you get done admiring the beauty of this park you’ll want to start riding the rides and there is a fast pass system in place to help you organize your trip and cut down on line times.  You can only use one fast pass at a time so it’s best to grab one and then hit everything with a shorter line in the same area.  Once you use the fast pass I would recommend heading to the next large attraction and getting another one.

Coasters

California Screamin': 7 out of 10
There is a lot to love about this ride.  It has a launch, a great drop, a loop, onboard music and over 6000’ of track.  The ride resembles a wood coaster but every bit of it is steel.  If you like to have fun then you’ll love this one.

Mulholland Madness: 4 out 10
This is a mouse coaster that’s themed to a crazy drive down Mulholland Drive.  There’s traffic signs everywhere and obstacles o-plenty.  The theming really adds to the mouser experience.

Non-coaster Highlights
Keep in mind that these are rated on a scale that is separate from the coaster list

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™: 7 out of 10
Like most Disney attractions this one is loaded with theming.  You feel like you’re checking into a haunted hotel and they’ve covered everything down to the cob webs.  A portion of the experience is waiting in line since you’re shuffled into different rooms all of which feature mega theming.  After all of this, the pay off is a sweet drop ride with a touch of freakiness.

Soarin' Over California: 6 out of 10
This ride is a motion simulator on steroids.  Riders are situated in rows that hang in the air and leaves everyone with their feet dangling.  Looking forward you’ll see the simulation portion of the ride, a giant screen that makes you feel like you’re hang gliding over California.

Orange Stinger: 6 out of 10
Picture a wave swinger inside of a giant orange.  The bumble bee and giant orange theming definitely add to the ride experience and since we love wave swingers we loved this one even more.

Sun Wheel: 5 out of 10
Now picture a giant ferris wheel with a wacky twist.  As the giant wheel rotates the cars swing and slide towards the center of the wheel.  When you add this thrill to the views it becomes a great ferris wheel experience.

Maliboomer: 5 out of 10
A launch tower that comes equipped with riot gear, what could be better?  The launch itself is a little on the weak side and the plastic shield that is placed over your face can makes me feel like I’m stuck in a space suit.  I’ve heard that the riot shields help to keep the screaming contained.
