This was our first trip to Branson and it was a spontaneous trip that was planned only 1 hour before we left. We got home from work Friday afternoon and realized that we didn’t have any plans for the weekend and Janessa through out the Branson idea, an hour later we were in the car. We were worried that the crowds might be a bit too much since it was peak season and we were breaking our cardinal rule and going on a weekend. Well, it was crowded but it didn’t take anything away from the awesome experience that we had. This is a great all around park with a solid staff, excellent food and it’s placed right in the middle of a forest. The park was absolutely beautiful and the shade provided by the trees is something that you don’t typically get to experience at most parks.
A few of the rides will get your extremely wet so be sure to take some zip lock bags or leave your valuables with someone that staying behind. Don’t eat before you get to the park. We usually grab something on the way but the food at SDC is affordable and it’s better than most of the food that you’re going to find out in town.
Coasters Reviews
Wildfire: 7 out of 10 Wildfire is the parks current thrill machine. It’s a large coaster that offers a great view of the surroundings. As with most B&M’s it’s a smooth comfortable ride with great pacing and intense elements. We rode this one twice even though the line was about a 30 minute wait.
Thunderation: 5 out of 10 This is a mine coaster with a wood structure and steel tubular track. You have the option of riding backwards if you’d like but I’ve never tried it. The setting is right in the middle of the woods again and the trees provide an additional thrill. Thunderation’s line moves pretty quickly and we only waited 20 minutes or so for our only ride.
BuzzSaw Falls: 4 out of 10 If you don’t like being soaked then you’ll probably want to avoid this one. After leaving the station the boat/car submerged itself and we were drenched from the waist down. After the initial boat ride the course switches over to a roller coaster and takes a quick trip through the woods. After a trip up the lift hill it’s back down into the water and this time your upper body gets sprayed.
Fire in the Hole: 3 out of 10 This coaster was indoors so it was a nice break from the summer heat. It’s not a thriller but it’s a fun little ride that features a town on fire. This one was about a 15 minute wait.
Other Attractions at Silver Dollar City
American Plunge: 7 out of 10 This is SDC’s lone log ride and it’s a good one. The flume takes riders underground for a portion of the ride and then it ends with a drop down a wooden flume. We got to this one early in the morning so the line was only about 20 minutes.
Lost River of the Ozarks: 4 out of 10 We usually avoid the raft rides since they’re designed to soak you and then leave you for dead. Since we were already wet it didn’t matter but if we would have known that the line was an hour long we probably would have skipped it. It’s a great raft ride but they might as well save money on the rafts and just throw riders into the water.
WaterWorks Waterboggan: 4 our of 10 By now we were experiencing full saturation and drying off was a distant dream. This ride places riders into toboggan shaped rafts and then sends them down a water slide that twists and dips it’s way through the woods. Did I mention that you get wet?
Tom Sawyer's Landing: 4 out of 10 This is a tree house attraction that is designed for kids and it features a lot of climbing nets and towers. It’s a workout and if you’re up to the task it can be a lot of fun.
Grandfather's Mansion: 2 out of 10 This is a wacky house with goofy mirrors and slanted floors.
