This wound up being a great time to visit LA. The crowds were lower than expected and the weather was as perfect. Six Flags Magic Mountain gets a bum rap a lot of the time but my wife and I absolutely love their rides.
It was fairly clean (we’ve seen worse) and the food selection was unlike most parks. How many places can you eat sushi and a churro? The park staff didn’t stand out one way or the other and the theming was hit and miss, some rides had great theming and some didn’t have any at all. Finding a bathroom can be difficult at times but that's my only major complaint. Either way this is a trip that we always look forward to. Coaster Ratings X: 10 out of 10 This is our favorite coaster of all time and the first time that we rode it we couldn’t stop laughing and smiling. It’s a difficult coaster to describe you really have to ride it to know what getting flipped onto your head feels like. Be sure to take a bathroom break before getting in this lines and pick you line partners carefully because your're going to be with them for a while. Even with all of that we still rode X twice and wished that we would have waited a 3rd time.
Goliath: 7 out of 10 Plummeting into a tiny tunnel at the bottom of the first drop made this 25 minute wait null and void. Goliath provides a smooth ride with a couple of air time pops (nothing extreme). The craziest portion of the ride is the helix; I’ve actually come close to blacking out in this area.
Batman the Ride: 6 out of 10 Batman is small but it packs a lot of g-forces and is really intense all the way through. This is also the ride that eventually turned me into an enthusiast. The invert experience is still one of my favorites and I haven’t found an invert that I don’t like. The line and station are other plusses for this ride. If you like anything Batman related you’ll probably enjoy waiting in this line. Superman the Escape: 6 out of 10 Launch coasters are alright by me and this one is loud and fast. You can hear it and see it from all over the park. The size is impressive the ride station and que are well themed. You might want to get a couple of rides in on this one. Riddler’s Revenge: 6 out of 10 Top stand up coaster I’ve been on. The loop around the lift is an interesting element and the ride stays intense throughout. The lines really seem to back up on this one. Colossus: 6 out of 10 It looks impressive but it just doesn’t have the intensity that you would expect from such and impressive looking structure. Viper: 6 out of 10 Another impressive looking ride, it’s perched on top of a hill. This ride has a lot of speed and a lot of g-forces. It’s a classic Arrow design. One ride should be plenty. Ninja: 6 out of 10 This is one of my favorite suspended coasters. It makes great use of the terrain and surrounding trees and it has a lot of side to side wiggle, which is a good thing for these rides. This is a must ride but watch out for slow moving lines. Déjà vu: 5 out of 10 I don’t dig going backwards through loops so if you do then please ignore this review. Every boomerang out there makes me a little nauseous. Be prepared to wait. Revolution: 5 out of 10 This is another great use of the terrain and wilderness, this ride also has some historical significance. One ride is usually enough per trip. Gold Rusher: 3 out of 10 It’s not like a lot of the other mine train coasters out there and it has it’s moments but if you’re limited on time then I would recommend getting back in line for X. Psyclone: 3 out of 10 Not the best ride in the park but if you have time you should give it a shot. NonCoaster Rides I usually don't enjoy spinning around in circles or getting soaked so I'm very selective about noncoaster rides. These are also based on a different rating system. There's coaster and then there's everything else.
Log Jammer: 7 out of 10 It's not very often that you get to ride two log rides in one park. Log Jammer is my favorite of the two due to it's location. I also love spending a quarter to shoot people with water as they pull into the unloading area. Arrowhead Splashdown: 6 out of 10 This isn't the most memorable log ride that I've been on but it's just as fun most of the other so be sure to check it out. |
