A look at the rides that Six Flags St. Louis has to offer through the eyes of Ron & Art. Superman, Batman, Bugs Bunny...all the great superheroes are out to meet, greet, thrill and take photo-ops with patrons of Six Flags St. Louis. This year the park has pumped up the volume on themeing to celebrate their 45th Anniversary. At every turn a character takes you back to the days of cartoons and comic books. Scooby-Doo, the Joker, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, Tweety, Sylvester, Daffy Duck, Taz, Speedy, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Robin, Marvin the Martian, Elmer Fudd...It's more magical, memorable and exciting than ever! New features at the park, located just outside St. Louis in Eureka, MO, expand the high-quality themeing of DC Comics and Looney Tunes to include a drop tower, the Superman Tower of Power, and the Bugs Bunny National Park, a beautifully orchestrated childrens area for children and adults alike. Take your (inner) child directly to Bugs Bunny National Park for Elmer Fudds’ Weather Balloons. Twist and turn your balloon to squeals of laughter, delight and ultimately... queasy stomachs. There are bouncy, bumpy, climbing, running, jumping energy-expending attractions to drain even the most spirited child. Due to open in late spring, Superman Tower of Power completes the park with a thrilling toe-tingling drop-ride. Superman hovers above the park promising to provide a quality view with a spine-tingling rush. Make no mistake; this park is a thrill park. The top three roller coasters are a thriligy of undeniable world-class fun. Batman, Mr. Freeze and The Boss are simply...not to be missed. Yet, even the older coasters stand-out in their respective niches. The River King is one of the fastest mine trains you'll ever experience. The Screamin' Eagle, which in 1976 was the worlds' fastest and tallest woody is unusually smooth, fast and furious. And although the Ninja has been eclipsed by newer, bigger, faster steel coasters, it remains the blackbelt of the steel coasters built in 1986. Six Flags St. Louis is the thrill destination primarily because of the dark knight. Batman The Ride is juiced. It remains the standard for inverts because it is so F * A * S * T. It packs more punch per linear foot than Mark McGwire. Batman is this parks' premier ride. Fast on Batman's heels is Mr. Freeze, an electromagnetic launch coaster whose rumbles echo throughout the park. Mr. Freeze's takeoff is breathtaking and the reverse motion is superb. It earns a special place in this wizbanger's heart for achieving the impossible. Any ride that can be repeated...and not cause gut-rumble when traveling in reverse (no small feat) deserves an engineering "Oscar". On this trip there was no waiting, so the unpleasant indoor-cueing leading to Mr. Freeze was not a problem. Upon park entry, run don't walk, to the back of the park and give Mr. Freeze a run or two or three. The third "don't miss" ride at Six Flags St. Louis, needs no themeing to inspire fear, screams and terror. Without question, The Boss is, well....the boss. It is, by far, the roughest ride in the park. Rename this "The Punisher" and Six Flags would achieve complete honesty in labeling. This is one painfully fast, vast, wild woody! After the first rush of rides, absorb a park history lesson with a tour on the authentic working steam train, The Tommy G. Robertson. Not only is it an authentic train, a beautiful and relaxing tour; but, it also provides historic park details and a (staged and thoroughly corny) show. At the center of the park sits Colossus. This revolving wheel takes multiple groups, six persons at a time, to new heights to enjoy unparalleled views. This is another great place to take relaxing break with a horde of restless natives. Ah...then there are the water rides. First off, Hurricane Harbor, the water park IS included in the basic park entrance. Give the management a big thumbs-up for including this in the price of the ticket. The water park was not open this trip (Easter weekend IS early in the year). The Tornado in Hurricane Harbor is legendary fun. The Log Flume is standard fare - no drench, no snores. Scooby Doo Ghostblasters is a combo water ride and laser shooting gallery. The Tidal Wave is a drenching hoot. The final water ride is the overt and extreme humidity of a STL summer - a bummer. There is no escape, only reprieve. The water features are the perfect escape. It is the little perks that make a big impact on the park experience. Six Flags packs on the perks. They provide discounts on food purchases when you show a season pass. Last years' season pass is good for a free annual parking pass this year. They appreciate their clients and show it at every turn. With all this AND the exceptional DC Comics and Loony Tunes themeing, Six Flags St. Louis is a destination worth repeating. Add the new downtown stadium, The Arch, Union Station, The St. Louis Zoo & Laclede’s Landing to the mix and St. Louis is a world-class summertime destination.
