beast4Drop Zone was the first ride, and is perhaps the most nerve-wracking ride around. Quite fun.

We beelined back to Firehawk, the “new” for 2007 ride. I’ve never ridden a flying coaster before, and I must say it was quite interesting. The first rollover was a cool experience and the back-to-back rolls near the end were awesome. Definitely not great, but a very fun ride, and a much-needed addition to the park.

Vortex was right next door, and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a walk-on. I love the ride, but it has the typical Arrow roughness and horrible transitions. The drops are bigger than expected and gut-wrenching. It reminds me so much of the Orient Express. I love it.

The sun was almost down by this point, which means night ride time on the Beast. I didn’t enjoy it much last year; it was intimidating and the helix was crazy, but wasn’t the mind-blowing ride I expected. But this year was different. Yeah, I wish the trims didn’t exist on the first portion of the ride, but the way this ride tears through the trees is mind-blowing. It feels out of control and simply like it wants to kick your ass, which reminded me quite a bit of the Voyage. And this was just the first half. The helix blew my mind. I don’t know how the train gains that much speed by the bottom of the drop, but it does, and the trains scream through the spiral. It is loud, out of control, and terrifying. Definitely the best coaster finale, hands down. I know woodies are temperamental, but this year I caught it on a good day. Without the trims it would be pretty rough, but I would kill to have just one trimless ride just to experience the madness this ride had in its heyday. Regardless, it’s a great ride. Not the best, but night rides are awesome.
