There’s been some significant progress since our last tour. The slab for the station has been poured and the new webcam view will give us a perfect view of the station’s construction. All of the footers for the ride are now in place, even on the station side of the creek.
The bridge has been put in place for the run from the maintenance shed to the station and concrete work on the lift bridge abutments is complete. Steel for the lift bridge probably won’t be hung for another week or two. Bent work has continued and the return run as a new hop, which takes it right up to the lift area. The 2nd drop has start working it’s way back towards the lift as well. The GCI team has reached the point where the 2nd hill, lift, and return run all meet. It will be interesting to see how they put these final pieces together. Steel track work has begun as well. While we were there they were placing upstop track in the s-turn. We also learned that there will be a permanent service road that will cross the train tracks into Possum Trot near the drop. The off/on loading area for the trains will be in the brake area right before the lift.
