changWe woke up in Cincinnati, hopped in the car and drove straight to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. Due to extreme hunger we made a stop at Cracker Barrel just outside of the gates. The park sits on a huge complex that seems to include a stadium, convention center and so other junk. Once we paid for parking we had a long winding journey to the actual park and even when we found the parking lot we weren’t sure where to park. We eventually found the front gate and a close spot.

Once inside the park we were impressed with the cleanliness and park staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We did a quick walk around, took some photos and checked out the lay of the land. We then dumped our gear back in the car and went back in for some riding. This is where we ran into some troubles. The park is loaded with average/below average rides. The highlights were Superman Tower of Power, Chang and Roller Skater.

Superman only had about a 5 minute wait. It was a forceful drop with a surprising amount of intensity.

Chang was the longest wait of the day and was close to 45 minutes. We really just don’t like stand up coasters and feel like this one would be about 10 times better with floorless trains. I just can’t get comfortable.

Roller Skater was a walk-on and is a tiny family coaster. Janessa loved the fact that it looked like an old school roller skate.

Twisted Twins was also a walk-on (both sides) and even though it wasn’t rough it wasn’t exactly fun either. The trains seem to just meander around all while avoiding any type of intensity.

T2 was close to a 15 minute wait and by far the worst Vekoma SLC that we’ve experienced. We’ve since found out that it’s the oldest SLC in North America so one would have to take that into consideration. It felt like we were riding an angry bull and we just happened to be riding on the horns. Ouch was utter more often that yay.

Thunder Run was also close to a 15 minute wait and was only running 1 train. This ride has some real potential but seems to have come up short with regards to track maintenance. There was a great deal of shuffling but it was never really painful. There are a few spots with decent airtime. Gradual re-tracking would do a lot for this ride.

Greezed Lightin’ was down most of the day but opened up just before we left. It was only a 10 minute wait and mirrored our experience from other Schwarzkopf shuttle loopers. I don’t fit and that leads to me disliking the ride. I know a lot of people who love these things so they should be happy to know that I won’t be in front of them clogging up the line.

Road Runner Express was about a 5 minute wait and like T2 it caused the word “ouch” to be verbalized way too many times. We thought that it would be a normal mouser but instead it’s a version that’s lacking in fun.

We were only in the park for a few hours and didn’t stop to eat or do anything other that hit the rides. We do wish that we would have stuck around and made use of the water park. It looked impressive and the new ride Deluge has received great reviews so far.

After the park we checked into Central Park Bed and Breakfast, which was our first B&B experience and was located just a few blocks from downtown. Since it was cheaper than most of the hotel options it was a no brainer and we were happy with out stay. The house was large and cozy as were the rooms. Janessa used the word “cute” several times and since that word doesn’t exist in my vocabulary I will stick with comfortable. The host offered a freshly baked chocolate cake along with wine. Janessa got a glass of wine and I broke off a good sized slab of cake. We spent some time in the back garden relaxing and writing this review.

We got wind of a spectacular Italian restaurant downtown so once we mustered up the energy we hopped back in the car and went in search of it. We found some cheap parking and hoofed it. Nobody in the entertainment district had any idea what we were talking about so we dropped in on one of the local hotels and asked the concierge. He quickly pointed us towards Vincenzo’s and even called ahead to get us a table. We’ll be sure to make better use of concierges in the future.

The person that gave us the recommendation was dead on. This was one of the best Italian meals that we’ve ever had. We started with a caeser salad that was prepared table side and then had a pasta appetizer. For dinner Janessa had veal saltimbocca and I had the bowtie pasta with peas and prosciutto in a cream sauce. Both were absolutely delicious. The tiramisu that we had for dessert also ranks at the top for us.

After a good night sleep we woke up to a home made breakfast (the 2nd B in B&B) that included fresh oranges sliced and dressed with candied dates and cinnamon. The meal also included a southwestern egg casserole and bacon. Once full we packed up and headed for Holiday World.
