I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this ride is going to be fun.

I sure wish this did not have OTSRs.  It might prove to be painful in some of those turns.

I worry about painful turns even without the OTSRs.

It certainly won't have the same amount of karate chops to the neck that Maverick has but I can see a couple of spots where you might take one to the jugular.

I'll willing to take a punch or two in the throat for this one though.

If it karate chops like Maverick, it will be a "one and done" for me.

Intimidator 305, the new coaster coming to Kings Dominion for the 2010 season, was just completed over the weekend! Construction began on this mammoth coaster on June 1st 2009. You can see the latest construction pictures of the coaster at the parks official site: link.

I'm still rather timid about riding this thing.  Some of those transitions with the speed it will be going through them make me very nervous.  I just don't think having that big of a hill right into a curve is a good thing and then some of those "flip flop" transitions at that speed are just asking for trouble.  I sure hope this doesn't have Maverick style restraints, cause if it does you will be lucky to have any neck left when you get back to the station.

With regular lap bars this would be a ride I was really looking forward to.  With Maverick neck slappers I'm in agreement with you.

Hopefully they find a happy medium with those over the shoulder belts that they used on the spinner in Europe.  There seems to be a lot of conflicting information about the actual restraints.  I guess we'll know for sure when the trains show up.

I would not ride this if it had regular lap bars. No way in hell. That could get dangerous to your spinal chord (i.e. why we have the OTSRs in the first place). I'd rather have a mild headache than be paralyzed.
I think I heard somewhere that they are using the same restraints as that spinner, not the ones they used on Maverick.

I mean I'd even be happy with the new restraints they have on Vekoma hang and bangs then the nasty things they have on Maverick

I agree with everyone on those Maverick restraints. That first quick transition from the first turn into turn 2 threw my neck pretty hard.

The trains showed up and it's hard to tell but it doesn't look as if the restraints are the same as Maverick.  I actually can't see the shoulder part at all.  They might just be over the shoulder lap bars.  :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

I took a quick look at KDFanSite to see what they were saying and they're all pretty confident that they're going to be the shoulder straps like those on Tornado at Bakken.

This is the best shot I could find.  Definitely something I can live with.

They aren't the same restraints as Maverick. The park said that ages and ages ago.

I thought the park said that they were over the shoulder restraints -- that's not saying that they are not like Maverick's -- that is almost confirming that they are.

Is that Mini Me from Austin Powers? I didn't think he was big enough to ride those rides.

That certainly slipped by me.  The guys at KDfansite seem to agree though.

No shoulder harness of any kind as of yesterday.  Even if they add soft straps that wouldn't be to bad.  I highly doubt that they would add hard Maverick style straps.

Really liking the ride and I'm hoping it does not get those hard restraints. As I've said before. Those final turns would be very painful. But if the reviews come in strong(I'm sure they will be great!) I might have to try and make my way out to KD this year.

I've never experienced those types of restraints but I'm assuming that anything would be better than the Maverick style.

I wonder if the Tornado restraints are just fabric or if they have a small metal strip inside of them.

Jason, I would think for fail-safe purposes, the vest would have some sort of metal strip or cable inside it. Maintenance would be pretty heavy if they had to replace a vest every time they found a torn or loose seam. Then again, Skycoasters don't typically have any fail-safes in the harness (I know first hand from the one at Kings Island).

Anyone else notice that the test seat has a lot of sharp edges?

I'd say it's not in it's "final form" yet.

Well, I rode Intimidator 305 this morning and I must say, I was a little let down. Theywere using the Tornado restrains, which was a nice surprise, but they were fairly restricting. The transitions were WAY better than Maverick - no discomfort at all, and it was a fun ride, but it definitely could have been much better. Volcano (#200 for me yaaaay) was a lot more fun.
