Orient Express Model
« on: Oct 6, 2008, 12:12 »
If anyone has any photos or knows where I can access some photos of the Orient's station, past or present, I am in need. I don't think I will be able to get to the park this year to take some photos.

If anyone is going to go take construction photos, I would like to know if someone could do me a HUGE favor. I need photos of the Orient Express lot and photos of the surrounding buildings. If you could take pictures of the whole property it would help me immensely. I also need the same for the Zambezi Zinger area in the woods.

I will be using these photos as a guide in my recreations. I have started working on the Orient Express, and am waiting on a few things for the Zambezi Zinger model to be complete. For the Zinger I need photos of the area in the woods, I'm not 100% on the path of the creek, and the path under the train trestle.

If you are going to be in the park and would like to do this, I would REALLY appreciate it. Thank you!

The Zinger stuff would be difficult since you can't take photos from the train and you can't see much of the area from the walkways.

Have you tried MSLive maps?  They might help some.

As for OE I would love to lend a hand but I don't have any plans to be at the park while it's light out (and during operating hours).

I have some pictures of Orient's station, but I can't find them anywhere. I'll get back to you.

Been doing some modeling. I still have a little bit of track work to do along the Mid-Course, but the areas I'm satisfied with are starting to get their supports. The upper loop is getting it's arch right now. I have the shape done, but now I have to get the cross members where they are supposed to go.

You may have noticed I opted for the old theming and colors. The pond is coming along. More photos coming soon.

I was thinking just normal spring/summer trees.

It's weird seeing track in the air without supports, huh?

Another big update:

I have almost all of the tube supports installed and capped. I put in some temporary supports for the lift, turn around, and mid course. I still have to build them correctly, but I just wanted something other than floating track.

Wow! AyTrane, these models you have made are fantastic! Everything looks so close to the original ride... its awesome! Awesome job on the loop supports by the way, they look great! Will there be any sharing of these kick ass models, or will I just have to be inspired enough to try and model them myself? :)

Looks great! I think the interlocking loops are amazing!  It looks so much like the real thing did.

Thank you for the compliments, makes the time worth it when someone else can appreciate the effort.

The more and more I remember I really like the helix, if only it could have been smoother, I like the motion of it.

Another update for you, completed the support tower in the Kamikaze Kurve. I also have started working on the tunnel. I threw in some glamor shots too ;)

this might be a dumb question, but will you be able to "ride" it once it's finished? Or is this mainly for nostalgia reasons?

Yes, it is fully ride able. I will be making a video of it and putting it on YouTube when I am done. Just like the Zambezi Zinger model I made. If you have NoLimits Simulator I can send you the track file too.

I have a couple shots for you. I started work on the station, but textures are being a nightmare! So consider this just a teaser photo as most of the neat part of the station are not built yet, just the roof, foundation, and platform are being worked on right now. Playing with colors and textures right now. My to-do list is getting shorter, just more tedious.

Cool did you take an Overhead shot of the NL Layout. I am just wanting to be sure you didn't curve after the 2nd loop like someone else did. It was straight track from 2nd loop to the Kamakaze Kurve.

Nope, it's flat and straight. The layout is accurate to within 5 degrees. I do know for sure of two spots that aren't perfect, but for now I'm not going to worry about it.

Keith has access to nicer programs and equipment than me, so I am limited. With enough time and effort I can produce good looking animations though.

Good stuff.  Definitely looks better than the original file I sent you.  If you ever get a chance to add in the trees I personally reccomend a fall theme.  Seems like everytime I think about riding it my memory reverts to a fall ride, even though that only happened once or twice.

I've been playing with the skybox, trying to make the colors more pleasing and vibrant. I have all the scaffolding supports finished, but of course that file is on my other computer, so you won't be seeing that in this update, BUT you can enjoy these photos.

UPDATE 2-21-09

I have had some time to work on this thing, and it looks like I'm on schedule for an April 4th release.

Updated the horrid car texture for this crisp one.

Station texture problem was solved, and so construction continues
