Big Ass Chinese GCI
« on: Jan 27, 2010, 02:59 »
I saw this on GCI's Facebook page.  It's possible that it's SDC or it might be an old ride that they've already built.

I'd sat twister, but who knows right now.

Jason, I think that's Thunderhead's terrain.

I can't seem to get that Terrain to match excact to me. I wonder what it's scaled at for the Land Contours if they're at 10 foot intervals or not. Anyway here's a Topo Map of SDC: http://msrmaps.com/image.aspx?T=2&S=11&Z=15&X=1174&Y=10145&W=3&qs=|Silver%20Dollar%20City|MO| I also have a Garmin Mapsource Topo Map (my custom made topo map of that area), but I couldn't get the terrain to match perfectly but it does look simular to the area around the Echo Hallow TNT Area so it might be ours. compare to see!

There's actually an updated one from yesterday on their Facebook page.

Are you sure?

The topography map that Chris posted for the area in question doesn't seem to match up.  It wold also be strange for SDC to allow GCI to float this kind of stuff.

I thought for sure it was Thunderhead -- but I've seen it lined up with the topography of the area west of PK & south of the train and it actually matches.  However take that for what it is worth.

Can you give us a link?  That area is a bit more rugged.

It would be strange for them to clear out the Water Boggan area and then build a new coaster on the opposite side of the park.

I've heard numerous rumors about that area (around GG) being used for Roaring Falls as well as an addition much like Adventure Mountain at Dollywood.

Time will tell... and no I don't have the link to that anymore (the comparison of the topo to the GCI thingie).  The best I can say is go the site Chris gave us and then look in that area by PK and south of the train.

It sort of matches the valley behind PK, but it could also sort of fit BGE and Alton Towers, among others I think. That valley is huge though, so this would be a huge ride if it were to go there - like almost Beast size. Plus it would be pretty far away from the park. They'd extend the pathways at Wildfire and PK to converge and then wind down and around PK all the way down into the valley where the station would be. That's a pretty good walk, unless the queue line is extended a long way...

It's possible, but I'm not getting my hopes up. It's more likely to go overseas. I don't see GCII being allowed to expose this much so early if it were for SDC's 2011 season, unless they are going to make an announcement in the spring to help celebrate the 50th somehow.

In RB news, an SDCFans member and SDC employee posted some new shots here: http://sdcfans.com/forums/index.php?topic=150.msg11359#msg11359

Looking good.

See that and comparing the Aerial Terrain Shots make me pose a few questions for the coaster:

Will this be the one to knock The Voyage (or El Toro if the new trains don't work well for Voyage) off the top spot for best wooden coaster (Prowler premiered at 6th on the Internet Poll and 8th for the Golden Tickets and you know GCI builds those things darn smooth where you can actually reride em so a bigger version of the Prowler would be a big contender)

Will this coaster be longer than the Beast or the Voyage, or will it be shorter? (The Image from GCI's site hints that it will be a pretty good long ride with some possible tunnels)

If SDC builds the biggest Wooden Coaster Ever I wonder if that will bring tourism up to Branson?

is it just me or could the lift hill be at the end of the ride so you would go down into the valley and then be brought back up at the end?

Considering how high the lift is off the top of the hill, there must be some track after it. The station very well could be anywhere though.

I would like to know what that notch in the hill is - maybe it matches something at another park, or maybe it's part of the site plan for some reason.

Chris do you have a good topo map for Kings Island?  A lot of people seem to think that this could be SOB's spot.

SOB's land area is flat.  Now if they took out Top Gun too, then I could see that happening.

It's not SDC's.  They have something else up their sleeve right now

Here's the requested topo map of King's Island: http://msrmaps.com/image.aspx?T=2&S=11&Z=16&X=1839&Y=10895&W=3&qs=|Kings+Mill|OH|. Man that terrain does not look like it around SoB however it might match on the south side of the park, but it fits SDC more on that image.

Also I decided to Include Dollywood's Topo Map here: http://msrmaps.com/image.aspx?T=2&S=11&Z=17&X=677&Y=9910&W=3&qs=|Pigeon+Forge|TN| Since some of the first guess on the very first image was Dollywood's Terrain.

Should I split out the GCI thing and put it in it's own thread?

Adam from GCI confirmed on a Podcast last night that it's a real project.
