Valleyfair Ride Removal
« on: Feb 5, 2010, 10:31 »
In a shocking find, it was brought to our attention that the Bumper Boats have been removed from Valleyfair's list of attractions & through confirmation of various sources, the Bumper Boats will be removed prior to Valleyfair's 34th season of operation.

Added in 1993, the Bumper Boats were located directly in between the Go Kart track and the Clubhouse in Challenge Park. The ride was fairly basic and consisted of motorized and inflated rafts that enabled riders to bump and spin around in a pond of water for the small price of $3 dollars (during the 2009 season).

During the last portion of the 2009 season, the pool that housed the Bumper Boats was emptied and the attraction itself remained unused and out of operation. At this point in time we aren't sure what plans there are as far as what the land will be used for, but the rafts themselves will be relocated and used at another Cedar Fair park in future seasons.

The Bumper Boats were always a great way to have fun and relax in Challenge Park. Although the attraction wasn't always the most popular ride in the park, it still added to the fun and unique atmosphere of Challenge Park. We can only guess that the area itself won't change that much, but hopefully something will be put in its place in order to fill the space left over from the Bumper Boats area.

Not to poo poo on your greivance for the loss of the attraction, but is it really that big of a loss for the park?

People are upset about the kiddie bumper cars leaving WoF.  Neither are a big loss.

I'm not upset about that either, TBQH.
... however you are comparing the two, people would have more right to be upset that they are removing a ride INCLUDED with admission compared to an UPCHARGE ride

To be honest I'm not really sad & it's not a big deal, I just figured I'd let you guys know. I posted this on VFZ & then just copy & pasted everything so that's why it's so official/press release(ish).

It's certainly news worthy.

The counter point to Swoosh's point is an attraction will be taking the place of the moved bumper cars that is also included with admission.

Ah, but the counter to your counter point is that if it ends up being only a Haunt, then it will only be used 2 months out of the season and be an empty fixture the remaining 5 months of the season

So every time a park opens a new ride they should raise admission?

And since Haunt adds several attractions, should they charge more during that time of year?

Hey we can have another road to nowhere if they just remove bounce a roos, Merry go round, the 2 stores, the Theater, and the spinning boat ride! oh the Taxis up there and they aren't getting rid of those. However if they slowly but surely moved all the stuff over a few seasons that would clear a quite a bit of land. All those rides accept the taxis take up very little land and could be moved elsewhere in the park. Imagine the possibilities then!

Jason who said they should raise admission every time they open a new attraction?

Maybe I misunderstood the Swoosh counterpoint???

I posted that people were upset about the kiddie bumper cars coming out.

And then Swoosh posted this
... however you are comparing the two, people would have more right to be upset that they are removing a ride INCLUDED with admission compared to an UPCHARGE ride

If people are upset because a ride is being removed and they are getting less for their dollar then the assumption could be made that raising admission with every ride addition also makes sense.  I'm not saying that this is the way it should be but it's a continuation of the point and counter point discussion.

And since there will be no net loss of attractions this year it's safe assume that a normal inflationary admission increase would be all that's needed (if that).

Well technically there would only be a net loss for those guests who are under 48" who would have been able to enjoy Krazy Kars and will not be able to enjoy the new HAUNT if it that is in fact the only thing that we are getting this year.

If they pave the former land over & put up a Bloodshed type of pole barn for a new Haunt you won't hear any complaints from me. To be honest, nobody ever rode the Bumper Boats, and because they charged extra money for them (and due to their location), nobody ever even acknowledged them in the first place.

New Haunt > Bumper Boats
