Tourney Time
« on: Mar 11, 2010, 09:19 »
Any local sports fans here?

I love this time of year.  I'm pulling for my Jayhawks and anything short of a final four appearance is failure IMO.  I don't really care how they do in the Big 12 tourney since they probably have a 1 seed locked up.

Failure, huh? That's a strong word and in a one-and-done tournament, anything can happen. I'd probably use "disappointment."

I'd like to see KU advance to at least Saturday in the BXII tourney just to lock up the #1 overall and ensure we get to play in OKC and St. Louis in the big dance.

Is anyone up for a bracket challenge once they are announced?

If Mizzou even gets into the NCAA tournament, I don't look for them lasting too long.  The team is really beat up and a lot of the stars that are still playing have major injuries and are just playing through the pain.  We really missed Justin Safford yesterday against Nebraska.  'course it didn't help that the game was at the Sprint Center... for some reason we just never play well there.

After the weird start that MU had I think that they had a great conference season.  The MU faithful has to feel pretty good about next year as well as the KSU fans.

I'm pretty confident on Mizzou's future, just annoyed at the injuries right now.

All of the local radio mouth pieces like MU and KSU next year.  Who's like to return for KU next year?

^^Depends on if Mizzou can stay healthy.  That's what killed them at the end of the season... but Mizzou is still a very young team and are only losing a couple, and honestly JT Tiller had a terrible season this year -- so he's not much of a loss.

^^^ KU will have both Morris twins and Tyshawn Taylor coming back as major contributors next year, as well as Brady Drunkenstar and Tyrel Reed. This year's freshmen show some promise. We also have a couple guys being redshirted this season (one of which started a handful of games last year) that should see a lot of time.

I'm so excited for Thursday despite some puzzling decisions by the selection committee.

ROCK CHOKE!!!!

What a great feeling to see kU be the first of the #1 seeds to exit the tournament.

Could care less how far Mizzou makes it, just seeing kU not even make it to the Sweet 16 as the NUMBER 1 SEED IN THE ENTIRE TOURNAMENT is just a great feeling.

Now what are kU fans going to do until November? lol

Got to root for Baylor, KSU and UNI now.  Oh well.  Mizzou had a good run despite health problems and a stone cold for shooting Keith Ramsey

You would really rather see your rival lose than your own team succeed? Really?

The UNI game sucked. They played great, KU played its worst game of the season. That's what happens in the tourney sometimes. They are a hell of a team, they deserved the win, and I'll likely be pulling for them the rest of the tournament too.

^In this case, yes.  Basketball is ALL ku has, and the way a lot of their fans had been acting lately you would have thought that Jesus himself played for ku (which is not the case by the way).  So ku is out of the tournament, what now?  Oh the fans will just have to go back to complaining how much "Missouri sucks" even though they cannot seem to help themselves and still go across the border on the weekends because there is nothing to do in kansas and yada yada.

There is no love lost between Missouri and kansas, I don't know why that surprises you when you see a fan express this.

A huge let down for sure but I didn't have a problem rooting for MU.

Complaining about rival fans and then being the worst kind of fan possible seems hypocritical to me.  :dunno:

Now I'm rooting for K-State.

Basketball is ALL ku has

As opposed to Missouri that shows excellence in football and basketball  :dunno:????

A disappointing end for KU for sure but they did roll the Big 12 and the Big 12 Tourney. Missouri is fun to watch play, too bad they couldnt hit water if they fell out of a boat. KState looks to have a decent matchup this round.

I agree with Racer, its funny how Swoosh says the fans will have to go back to complaining and thats all he's done.

Yeah Missouri won the North Division in 06, 07 and came in 2nd in 08 after graduating most of their starters.
Missouri won the Big XII basketball tourney in 09 and made it's 2nd straight NCAA tournament

I'd say that is excellence in both football and basketball.  I don't know what else that could be.

While kU has success in basketball, it's hard to deny that fact, kansas lost 7 conference games in a row to finish out the season in football.

Racer / ken21 - unless you've attended MU or kU - don't even try to pretend you understand the rivalry between the two schools, because you don't.

I can't speak for Racer but yes, I can understand how two schools being rivals would be so hard to comprehend. Its unspeakable, that in college athletics, there would be two institutions that want to beat each other. Man, what a concept to grasp. Over my head for sure.

What? You say the schools are only about three hours apart so that makes the rivalry more intense? Oh, the states border? Oh my good heavens, I bet that can't be repeated anywhere else in the nation.

I went to an OSU vs. Michigan game and it was great, both teams were trying not to score so they didn't upset each others feelings. I got a valentines card and a hearty handshake from their football coach.

Yes, this 'rivalry' you speak of between these two institutions is unmatched. Maybe other schools can, at some point in the future, spark a bit of intense hatred towards the other school. That would be great, maybe even a whole week. Rivalry week.....

nah, nevermind, it will never work.

^The thing is, this rivalry has been going on since the Civil War.  Even the ol' Ball Game does not compare to how intense this rivalry is or how long it has been going on.

Like I said, if you haven't attended MU or kU, you just won't get it.

Did anyone watch the K-State - Xavier game?

One of the best CBB games I've ever seen... definitely deserves discussion.

As much as I hate KSU and in particular their fanbase, they have a great team that is tons of fun to watch.

SPECTACULAR!  :speechless:

I got to think that they're going to the Final 4 where they might actually get a favorable match up.

I'm pulling for them and Baylor.
