New WOF Website
« on: Dec 3, 2009, 09:27 »
I just now noticed that Worlds of Fun has updated their website.  It is extremely similar to CP's and KBF's.   Many of you will be glad to see that the 2010 operating calendar has been posted with it.

I was content to the old one but I'll probably adjust to this one soon enough.

Yeah, I just noticed that too.
I would assume that it will be a change across the board for the rest of the parks as well.  Lawd knows that the former Paramount Parks could sure use an upgrade to their websites

I doubt it. Thats three parks to use this similar design over a two or three year period. In fact, it seems I remember a conversation about each park basically buying what they wanted for their site, which is why certain ones have more or less functionality.

Also, I can't fathom the amount of programming that goes into one of those.

The photos rule on this one. Check out the Privacy Policy page.

Another thing I just noticed...links for Facebook and such are located on each page. Social media rules the roost.

I found this kinda funny. . .

On the Jobs page, Once you click Apply, The picture at the top is the game where you have to knock down the clowns. So it is like WOF is saying, "Come Apply for a job with us, where you'll get knocked down like these clowns."  lol

I'm pretty impressed with the new site. Looks great. At first I was like "Why change it?" but theres nothing wrong with change and this site looks awesome. I've yet to check out the new pictures. Also Brandon had said we are getting new POV videos in the spring! Now we'll have an updated Timber Wolf vid because the last one has sun glare in it and is dark in the first big turnaround after the drop.

Also, I can't fathom the amount of programming that goes into one of those.

Probably not as much as you would think.  It is probably an out of the box solution like Joomla or Drupal.  Using those content management systems require little programing, and you are using a pre-built theme like it seems they are using you should be able to do most everything in the CPanel.  Not saying it doesn't take a lot of work, just not a lot of coding like it did 10 years ago before modern CMS came out.

As to liking the site, I have to say I like it on my PC, but initially didn't like it on my BlackBerry.  However, once I selected the lite graphics option it seems to run a lot better. It is a lot easier to navigate on my phone that the other site.  I frequently access the site on my phone to see the daily hours of operation.

If they are using a CMS then not having a mobile option is a little silly.  Most CMS had modules that will strip down content to make them mobile friendly.

Also seems like a few things are missing.  Didn't find a place to download wallpapers or icons like they use to have.

Overall, much improved over the last site.
