Valleyfair 2011
« on: Jul 29, 2010, 10:16 »
They're announcement is 2 days before WoF's.

http://www.startribune.com/local/south/99552589.html

I wonder if they're the same thing.

Their's is supposed to be a Camp Snoopy area basically running from the entrance to Corkscrew around to where Tot Spot ends now (by the entrance to the Wild Thing area).

While it is large, it's not quite that large. Also don't forget, Camp's are out, Planet's are in ;)

Are they moving that Tot Spot over by the Corkscrew photo booth then?

To me, the most logical place for one entrance would be there near the restaurant and the train depot by the Corkscrew Lake and then the other entrance by the corn dog stand / restrooms near the entrance to Wild Thing's plaza

Where a Planet Snoopy section would go is certainly the most interesting aspect at this point.  Looking at a map the current kid area doesn't look like a good candidate but then again there aren't a lot of spots that do look good.

It's such a funky layout.

Well if the rumors from earlier this summer are correct, Mild Thing will be leaving after this season and a new rollerskate will be added (yeah new credit that we can ride)

Corkscrew!

I like the setup for the kids area at ValleyFair!, it's a little off to the side of the main path, but easy to get in and out of.

^Yes and no.  Technically you are correct.  There will be a main pathway through the area that really does not go "through" the new section.  The current pathway will not go to the other side of Trapeeze and then head on past the Balloon Chase.  They are adding quite a bit of new pavement though and it appears some of the "pretty area" near Rockin' Tug will be leveled for the new pathway.

What I wish they'd do since they are reworking that area anyway, is put a new entrance to High Roller away from this area -- like have it go through the last turn into the brake run and then also rework the exit to exit over there as well.  Perhaps even give the coaster a sign with its name on it.

I was thinking that too. It's not Dragster, but High Roller is hardly a kiddie coaster.

Okay, I'm glad its not just me who thought the layout looked weird with High Roller being there.  I agree that it would be nice if if there was some sort of dedicated path to get back to that section of the park without having to go through PS.

They finally put up a bigger version of the artwork
http://www.valleyfair.com/_upload/Valleyfair%20Aerial%2001.pdf

Is it me or does it look like a new coaster where Mild Thing was.  If nothing else they have moved it and changed the track so that the load is on the opposite side and they have removed the wooden structure... so even if it still remains, the excuse they always gave to adults for not being able to ride is no longer valid.

Not quite, they still aren't sure. I talked with the Marketing & Communications Director as well as a few other folks from Marketing and they said that everything's still tentative & being confirmed/approved. If there's a new coaster, there's a new coaster. If there isn't, they will simply move & retheme Mild Thing.

On a side note - Here's a video I put together of the announcement.

No doubt.  We just got a new patio and stamped/stained concrete was about 30% cheaper.  I don't know why anyone would ever go the paver route.

Well Dorney is getting an $8 Mill redo of their Camp Snoopy to Planet Snoopy, so I'd say that it is pretty obvious that Camp Snoopys will soon be a thing of the past.  I hope we get some decent ride additions to our area and that they leave the trees that are there.

As someone who has done a 40ft long walkway using brick pavers I can agree they are not cheap. Add in the labor cost (if you don't do it yourself like I did) and it adds up real quick. It's because of that project that I get annoyed now when I see paver instalations that are not done correctly.

All 3 parks are doing the pavers (Brandon confirmed WOF was doing it today at the park).
Seems a shame, wish they could have applied the money that they are going to use on that towards another ride as the concrete paths in the area are still in good shape.

I think that the buildings being built for Dorney and Valleyfair are probably a good chunk of their extra cost. WOF already has a pretty good looking theater.
