How does free parking and free tube rental sound?

The Schlitterbahn Vacation Village Waterpark makes it easy to stretch family vacation dollars farther than ever before during these tough economic times. The first phase of the new Schlitterbahn Vacation Village Waterpark in Kansas City, Kan., opens this summer and provides unprecedented value by offering guests free parking, free tubes, free life jackets and the opportunity to bring their own food and beverages inside the park.

From the moment guests arrive in the Schlitterbahn parking area, it is obvious to visitors that this park is different from others. There is never a charge for parking so families save $10 or more right from the start.

Food and beverages are available for purchase throughout the Waterpark, but guests may save even more of their family budget by bringing their own picnic meals inside the park. Visitors may enjoy their meal wherever they like while lounging on a beach or at a picnic table in the center of all the action. Grilling, glass containers and alcohol are not permitted.

Inner tubes are available for free. Riders may float and slide to their heart’s content all day long without breaking the bank. Life jackets are also provided free of charge. Life jackets are strongly recommended and encouraged for all children less than 48 inches in height or for anyone who is a weak swimmer.

“Schlitterbahn truly cares about providing family entertainment without charging for all the extras, which can really save the family a substantial amount of money,” explains Michael Catcott, project executive for the Schlitterbahn Vacation Village. “During difficult economic times like these, families can feel comfortable knowing there are no surprise expenses once they enter the park.”

Just as important, park goers enjoy a unique collection of trademark Schlitterbahn innovations that are not found at other waterparks in the Midwest, including the Storm Blaster™ uphill water coaster which combines the up and down thrills of a roller coaster with the unique experience of being propelled upward by jets of water. Torrent River™, the world’s largest tidal wave river, sends riders afloat in tubes through a canyon with ocean-sized waves surging through the waterway.
The Transportainment™ River System minimizes the time spent waiting in line by allowing tubers to travel from one end of the park to the other as they experience multiple attractions without ever leaving the water.

Pricing and the opening schedule will be announced soon. New retail, lodging and other entertainment elements will be introduced during additional phases through 2011.

Bradley and I headed over to the Schlitterbahn site yesterday for a quick update.

Bradley was nice enough to do the writing.  http://www.coastercommunity.com/schlitterbahn-vacation-village-construction-tour2.html

And the story about me loosing a shoe is true.  My leg went about 6 inches into the mud and when I took my next step my shoe stayed behind.  That left me with a sock in the mud.  It was a hilarious mess.  I'll try to jack hammer off the mud later today.

As for the site, it really is huge.  The man made lake is impressive and the river that will eventually surround the park is just as massive.  The large ferry boats will take riders to different resort destinations.

Things should start moving more quickly now.  A lot of the concrete work is done and it apparently doesn't take long to put together slide complexes.

I got an email that said they went vertical today.  We'll try and get over there in a couple of weeks as things build up.

Here's a blog update with photos of the vertical action.

They didn't even have the forms in place for the cove that they poured when we were there a day earlier.

I thought all along that the Hard Casino would be the best option.

I actually took a look at the proposals and this Pinnacle plan looks way better.  Integrating the river walk with the Schlitterbahn development looks like a really cool idea.

I'm hoping that Schlitterbahn will open up on time but the way I'm looking at it, it still needs a little more work to get done before opening day

Why?  If the weather cooperates it is supposed to open June 1st is my understanding, and at the latest June 15th.

Color me skeptical, but it seems that they have way too much to build still in such a short time

I can understand some skepticism but they literally have 100 dudes working out there and once the concrete is done the slides should go up quickly.  Walkways won't take but a couple of days.  WoF just replaced all of the concrete by Zulu in just a mater of days.  It sounds like most of the thematic elements and buildings have been built down in Texas and just need to be set on a foundation.

Oh well if the buildings have been made pre-fab, that'll speed up the process considerably.

Drove by the park today on 435 and saw two slides snaking up from the bottom of the newly erected towers.  I was way too far to take pictures (especially with my cell phone) but I'd assume that we'll have at least one complete slide by tomorrow.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what are the giant pump screws used for?

Welcome aboard BeggarsTomb  :hello:

The development will be surrounded by a river system and the large screws will keep the water moving.  There are smaller screws that will be used in the Torrent River.  The large river will also feature ferry boats that will take visitors from the resorts to shopping and water park stations.

I drove around the site on May 3, and did see two water slides almost complete, and a lot of the infrastructure (that was hard to see) looked almost all complete. The new update looked very promising and that more and more progress is being made every day. The area has had some weather issues ( meteorologist student at KU here), but this last week or so has been pretty decent in the weather department, so hopefully more progress is being made.

My questions:

It appears that most of the work on the park, slides and pools, are being worked on right hand side of the park if you look at the map. Where are all the updates from Kristal River and the uphill master blaster water coaster? The master blaster is the staple attraction of Schlitterbahn and needs to be completed to show the KC area that this will be a truly an amazing development.

I have faith in the crews working so diligently, but it does seem that June 1 or even June 15 is getting extremely close and there is still much to be done. Landscaping, Parking lots, some of the water slides, and etc. What does anyone think the chance of them not opening this summer?

Does anyone live close to the park? Can someone take some more pics? The official blog is nice, but they use minimal pics and I just want to see if I am missing anything. Updates if you travel past the park would be great.

That would be great. Storms (if they happen at all) would be in the afternoon, and they might not develop until the front gets through KCMO.

What a great update on the park, things look like they are starting to move fast, since they have about 3-5weeks before the have to open!

On the blog I asked them about Kristal River and the Master Blaster water coaster so I am glad they showed us what is going on. I think they are really commited to opening this summer. People who live close to the park should see huge progress daily! Give us Updates KCK folks!

Is the Kristal River sponsored by Krystal Burgers?  Oh darn, spelled differently.
